completely for my career mentor with her supervision

Include a few sample charts with
no identifying information about patients in my portfolio
Objective #2: Learn about
the types of Autism, and how to work with children with these types of disorders
Activities/Resources:
Observe the autistic children on
the unit while assisting staff with caring for them
Review relevant research suggested
by my mentor, as well as from my own findings
Discuss knowledge of autism with
staff members and record responses in my notes
Report my
findings to staff members during team meetings
Evidence:
Include a pamphlet detailing my
findings on Autism
Include notes from my experience
with autistic children
Objective #3: Learn how to
guide and offer support to the children in a professional manner
Activities/Resources:
Encourage
children to express feelings and worries verbally in a positive
manner to staff; build therapeutic rapport
Offer coping
skills (taking space, going to the quiet room, etc.)
Learn to
proactively recognize
inappropriate behavior in response to frustration and take the
proper measures to keep the children safe (report to staff
immediately)
Evidence:
Include confidential case studies
of patients whom I have worked with individually: including advice
and techniques I have used to help them cope with no identifying
information
Objective #4: Fulfill the roles
of an effective counselor on the inpatient unit
Activities/Resources:
Switch roles with my mentor and I
will become the counselor
Be assigned to patients as a staff
member would, with my mentor's supervision
Seek employment on unit for next
summer
Evidence:
Include notes about my struggles
and successes while fulfilling the role of a counselor
Include progress notes about the
change of behavior in the children from the beginning of my role as
a counselor to the end, and how my support has caused a positive
change
